FSDB Star Basketball Players

Congratulations to Jason Way. He was selected to the Deaf Digest first team Deaf All-American Basketball Team. He and one player from ASD were the only players chosen for this honor from all the Mason Dixon schools in the south. Jason has been a three year starter and has statistically averaged a double/double in points and rebounds the past three seasons.  He has over 700 points and 700 rebounds in his prep career at FSDB.  I am happy and very proud of Jason for what he has meant to me and most importantly the contributions he has made for our resurgent boys program. Thanks Jason !!

Special mention to Micha Coleman.  Micha did not make any of the teams, but was deserving. He was second or third in almost every statistical category this year. Unfortunately there are no stats I can send that describe his leadership, defensive effort and intensity on the floor. Hopefully, he will make some of the other end of the year awards that are still forthcoming. Thanks to Micha also.

Result from the Mason Dixon Tournament

ASD  62    FSDB  33

Season record    11-6

2nd Place in the Mason Dixon Tournament

Congratulations to the Silent Warriors of ASD. They are a very deserving
champion. We wish them well the rest of their season.

We  had no answer for ASD's  1-3-1 three quarter trap. That was the
difference in the game.  Every time we did beat their pressure, we got
pretty easy looks at the basket along the baseline. Unfortunately those
chances were few and far between. We could never overcome a 20 point
deficit at the end of the first quarter.  Following that quarter we played
them pretty much even the rest of the game. The outcome was never in
doubt. Any hope we had of getting back in the game was dashed by sloppy
passing  and numerous missed easy shots.  ASD is just a better team this
year. This loss should not mar the wonderful showing the boys had this
weekend. We played for a title for the first time in 13 years and  gave
the home fans and alumni some exciting basketball.  Our boys played with
pride and class when we won and showed the same character  after a
heartbreaking loss. I am very proud of them as all of you should be.
Thanks to EVERYONE that made this tournament a huge success. Special
thanks to Sue Hill and Bryan Wolfe for all they did. Last, I want to thank
my team for their excellent behavior all weekend while staying in the
dorm. They are truly a special group to me.

Steven Moilinelli, Micha Clean and Jason Way all made the All-Tournament
Team !!

STATS:
Mica Coleman-10 points
Kareem Dore-14 points 9 rebounds
Cameron Gardner-1 point
Steven Molinelli-2 points
Jason Way-6 points, 6 rebounds

All eleven Lady Dragons played and scored in this game.  Our second
team played more minutes than the first team, doing our best to conserve
the first teams energy for our opponent Mississippi School for the Deaf
on Friday night.  We were successful as our Friday night score will attest.

This game was a race horse game from the get go; we started out
with a bang and never let up.  In the second half when Mississippi would
get within single didgits we just ramped up the offense and moved it
back up to 15 plus points each time.  We had 3 girls with double doubles
in this game and they were as follows:  Wanda Mack 10 points and 10 rebounds;
Erinn Powell with 17 points and 11 rebounds; and finally Lakeisha McNair with
24 points and 16 rebounds for her best game of the season.  The Lady Dragons
played their best team and all around game of the season vs. Mississippi.
Yeah Lady Dragons!!!!!

All Lady Dragons played in this game also, we just couldn't buy a shot.
There appeared to be a cover over the basket when we were shooting
and not one when Georgia was shooting!!!  We can be proud of the Lady
Dragons they represented our school well and never gave-up, never-say-die,
even though our shots were not falling.

many thanks, Coach Mike LaMee

FSDB  53  Georgia School for the Deaf   40

Season  record    11-5

FSDB  vs. ASD  Championship Game-Saturday 8:00pm

We came out very sluggish on offense in the first quarter and basically
just stood around waiting for something to happen. It didn't. We were down
10-4 at the end of the quarter. We started picking up the tempo,
especially after half time and gradually built a comfortable working
margin in fourth quarter. The outcome was not in doubt by that time. We
did not play a very good game mentally or basketball wise. We now find
ourselves in uncharted waters for the first time since the  1995
season...............playing in the championship game. If we play as we
did tonight, we will lose. If we play with the intensity we did against
South Carolina, then we have an opportunity to win our first title since
1979.  Simple equation.  Bottom line though is, we are playing for a title
regardless of how we got there. The boys gritted it out tonight and came
away with a win. Wish us well Saturday.

STATS:
Micha Coleman-10 points
Bradley Crickmore-2 points
Kareem Dore-8 points
Cameron Gardner-3 points(one 3)
Marcus Larry- 5 points. Marcus really played well in the second half.
Chris Lennon-3 points(one 3)
Stevn Molinelli-2 points. Off game for Steven tonight
Jason Way-16 points, 12 rebounds. Another stellar game for the big guy
Matt Williams-4 points. His points were huge as he gave us a big lift when
we needed it in the first half
Ryan Santana and Jordon Bonano played but did not score.

MANY thanks to Carrie Cobb for joining us and helping in so many ways.  We couldn't have done it all without her!!  <smile>

Our last home match will be tomorrow in Settles Gym.  It will be our senior night.  We have MANY seniors that will be recognized.  The tri-meet will be against St. Joseph Academy and St. Augustine High School.  Things will get underway at 6:00pm.  Please come out to support us!!
